In Schnitzler’s novella Die Toten schweigen a wife experiences her lover’s accidental death. This trauma along with her fear of discovery lead to a major psychological crisis. Based on collected manuscript textual sources, all reproduced as facsimiles with transcriptions plus the full text of the first edition (1897), this edition makes it possible to study Schnitzler’s experimentation with issues of depth psychology and narratology.
